| | | Turn to Web for fabulous photo help | | Posted Tuesday, November 07, 2006 3:25:53 AM by Blog57 Team | | Q: Thank you for all the great tips. I missed the one where you described how to download photo-enhancing software. Would you please fill me in? Greg Cameron A: Heaven knows that Ive written a lot of stuff about ways to find software that lets computer users crop, enhance, adjust and otherwise tweak digital photographs, but I continue to get asked about this. Its understandable, considering that not only are digital cameras replacing traditional film ones, but cell phones are replacing digital cameras. I wonder what will replace cell phones? Folks should know that many of the online photo-printing services permit customers to crop, fix red-eye and do other minor enhancements with free software such as that from the Shutterfly Web photo service available at www.shutterfly.com and from its competitor Snapfish, at www.snapfish.com.... | |

| | | B92 - News - Society - MUP acquires photo robot software | | Posted Thursday, November 02, 2006 7:15:34 PM by Blog57 Team | | BELGRADE -- The Serbian police started using modern computer software to help it produce photo robot images. The police database is comprised of over 2,000 photographs of known felons. The software MUP operates with uses as its basis the images of the criminals already known to the police. Olivera Radosavljevi of the MUP’s registration and identification division says a witness who gives a statement to be used to produce a photo robot first looks at the existing database of photographs. "The witness sometimes identifies the perpetrator directly, so we don’t have to go to the next stage", she says. Radosavljevi explains that in cases involving multiple witnesses, each photo robot is produced individually and then compared. The police will soon start using FIIS, a system for automatic facial identification.... | |

| | | Play Big | | Posted Monday, October 16, 2006 7:13:46 AM by Blog57 Team | | The CEO of a Southern California software company recently contacted FSB to trumpet the success of his new product. It had about 400 users at a dozen small companies and had just received a glowing review in a top industry trade magazine. But he and his co-founder were tiptoeing around a matter that they regarded as so sensitive that they spoke about it only on condition that we not print their names: Except for four developers in India, their company has no employees. Not even their customers know their secret. Thanks to a $99-a-month phone system and an actress who does voice-overs, a professional recording greets all callers and routes them to the company's sales, tech support, or marketing departments - but nine times out of ten, they'll reach the CEO. The CEO used $150 software to create an online video demonstration that walks potential customers through his product's features, giving his Web site a flashy, moneyed feel.... | |
